WILL DONALD TRUMP INVEST IN GEORGIA?
Rumors about a possible Trump investment in Georgia started in July when an executive from The Trump Organization visited Tbilisi and Batumi.
Donald Trump makes news wherever he goes – and in some cases, in places he has never seen yet.
In July, Silk Road Group organized a three-day trip to Tbilisi and Georgia for Trump’s Special Council Michael D. Cohen.
Cohen, an executive vice president at The Trump Organization, was tasked with viewing over a dozen potential sites for Trump investments. The sites, owned by Silk Road Group, include possible residential and resort developments.
In comments to the press, Cohen said Trump was “extremely impressed” by Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili during a meeting in New York in April.
During his three day trip, Cohen met again with Saakashvili, as well as other key members of the government.
According to an interview with EurasiaNet.org, he was wowed by Batumi – even comparing the Black Sea coastal town with Las Vegas and parts of Europe.
But there are no guarantees that Cohen’s trip – however successful – will result in a new Trump Tower for Georgia.
He told EurasiaNet that he has identified two possible locations that Trump would be interested in, but it will be up to the boss to decide if the deal goes through.
“President Saakashvili is a real visionary, as is Mr. Trump. And putting the two together, I think they can do great things in Georgia.”
